Activities in the UK

There is an initial three year plan in the UK, with multiple aims and  objectives:

  • To assist 200 members in gaining access to Education, Health, Benefit Agency, Jobcentre Plus, recreational activities, and vital lifestyle information
  • To encourage 1,000 new immigrants to participate in the orientation programmes delivered by RHM so they can contribute positively to the formal economic development of the UK
  • To inform our users of issues affecting their lives in the UK and abroad and how to tackle them effectively. Helping them participate actively into the making-up process of a multi-racial British society, where everyone must be able to respect the diversity of cultures

Cultural orientation programmes

RHM will identify and create programmes to assist people in becoming integrated into society whilst celebrating and exploring their ethnic distinctiveness. This will include an orientation programme about Britain, social attitudes and cultural expectations, the organisation of trips to places of historical interest and cultural workshops that celebrate African theatre and story-telling

Therapeutic counselling

RHM will set up rehabilitative programmes using a team of specialist consultants to offer psychological and medical interventions to people who have suffered ill-treatment prior to resettlement in Britain. The aim is to re-establish, dignity, self-esteem and confidence through therapeutic counselling if appropriate and support through Bible scriptures framework, praise and prayer.

Healthcare

A multi-disciplinary team of personnel will be set up which has sustained knowledge and experience in HIV, AIDS and STD, nutrition and family planning with the aim of ensuring availability of relevant information to members about health care in the UK. The team will ensure that people have access to good and reliable health care and provide a range of specific health programmes including AIDS prevention an nutrition awareness.

Employment, education and vocational training

A vocational training centre will be set up to identify needs in the fields of education, English language skills and professional development. The centre will provide Basic English teaching.

Youth work / family mediation

A series of programmes and activities will be created to strengthen family life and reduce juvenile delinquency through family mediation and reconciliation service and the provision of sport, leisure and social entertainment facilities.

Advice and Support

In order to provide advocacy and ‘bridging the gap’ support for people to cope on a day-to-day basis there will be a day centre that provide professional advice and information covering Welfare Benefits, Housing, Health, Education and Training. The centre will also organise ongoing events, programmes of study and training, youth services and translation services.
